Crown/Bridges

Crowns and bridges are effective dental restorations designed to improve the function and appearance of your smile. A crown is a cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its strength, shape, and natural look. Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to neighboring healthy teeth, helping to restore your bite, speech, and overall oral health.

Both crowns and bridges are custom-made to match the color and contour of your natural teeth, providing a seamless and functional solution. These restorations not only enhance your smile but also help protect your teeth from further damage or shifting.

Steps in getting a dental crown

1. Initial Examination and Consultation

Your dentist will assess your tooth and discuss the best treatment plan. X-rays may be taken to evaluate the roots and surrounding bone.

2. Tooth Preparation

The tooth receiving the crown is numbed with local anesthesia. The dentist then removes any decay and reshapes the tooth to create space for the crown.

3. Impressions

The reshaped tooth is then carefully taken as a mold or impression. This can be done manually with putty or digitally using scanning technology. The impression helps create a crown that fits perfectly.

4. Temporary Crown Placement

A temporary crown is placed over the prepared tooth to protect it while the permanent crown is being made in a dental laboratory. These temporary crowns are usually made of acrylic or composite.

5. Fabrication of the Crown

The dental lab manufactures the crown based on the impressions or digital scans. This process typically takes a couple of weeks. Crowns can be made from various materials like porcelain, ceramic, or metal.

6. Fitting and Cementation

Once the permanent crown is ready, your dentist will remove the temporary crown, check the fit, color, and bite of the new crown. If everything looks good, the crown is permanently cemented onto your prepared tooth.

7. Final Adjustments

Your dentist will make any necessary adjustments to ensure comfort and proper bite alignment.

Regular dental visits and good oral hygiene will help the longevity of your crown.
