Root Canals

A root canal is a common dental procedure used to treat infected or damaged the pulp—the soft tissue inside your tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, or trauma, it can cause significant pain, swelling, and sensitivity.

Root Canals

During a root canal procedure, your dentist will numb the area to ensure comfort. They will create a small opening in the tooth and carefully remove the infected or damaged pulp tissue. Once the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected, the empty chamber is filled and sealed with a special rubber-like material called gutta-percha. In most cases, a crown or additional restoration is placed afterward to protect the tooth and restore its function.

Root canal treatment is highly effective at saving a tooth that might otherwise need to be removed. It relieves pain, prevents the spread of infection, and allows you to keep your natural tooth, maintaining proper bite and chewing ability. Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene practices can help prevent the need for root canal therapy in the first place. If you experience tooth pain, sensitivity, or swelling, consult Dr Nelson promptly for evaluation and treatment.
